ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- The Central Washington University football team outgained Simon Fraser 570 to 26 in total offense, en route to a 62-0 victory Saturday afternoon in Tomlinson Stadium to improve to 5-0 on the season and 3-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.
Â
The 62-0 win was the Wildcats second-largest shut out victory since World War II, just missing the record set in on Sept. 16, 2000 when CWU defeated Western Montana 64-0.
Â
The Central Washington defense was dominant from start to finish, holding Simon Fraser (0-5, 0-3 GNAC) to just 26 yards, which is second-fewest yards allowed by an opponent in school history.
Â
Quarterback
Reilly Hennessey completed 21 passes for 188 yards and five touchdowns, setting a CWU Division II era (Since 1999) record for touchdown passes in a game.
Â
Senior wide out
Nate Rauda was on the receiving end of three touchdowns, and totaled 72 yards on six receptions.Â
Christian Stafford and
Kyle Self also scored receiving touchdowns on the day, both of which were seven yards.
Â
The Wildcats had another big day on the ground, totaling 388 rushing yards in the game, led by Christian Cummings with 183 on 18 carries. Cummings has run for over 100 yards in the last three games, becoming the first player since 2013 to accomplish the feat. Fellow running back
Austin Pernell eclipsed the 100-yard mark for the first time in his career, taking 16 carries for 101 yards and a score.Â
Â
A pair of Wildcats scored their first touchdowns in the game.Â
Hasani Childs scored his first career touchdown on a 13-yard run in the fourth quarter, and quarterback
Tommy Hays fooled the defense on a read option to secure his first score as a Wildcat.
Â
The Central Washington defense had a field day, totaling five turnovers, which included four interceptions.
Â
Sean Elledge led the defense with six tackles, 2.5 for loss, and half a sack. Elledge also had an interception that was returned 28 yards down to the SFU goaline.
Â
The Wildcats had six sacks on the day, three of which came from senior
Bo Banner, pushing his season total to five.
Â
Lucas Peterson and
Gabe Caskey both played the majority of the second half, and made their presence felt by bringing down their first career interceptions. Peterson had five tackles and Caskey finished with three as both players set a new career high in tackles.
Â
Central Washington will stay in Ellensburg and play host to Humboldt State University in a Homecoming matchup next Saturday, Oct. 7 in Tomlinson Stadium.
