Wildcats Begin 2018 On The Road

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Jan. 2) – The Central Washington University women's basketball team opens 2017 on the road against a pair of Great Northwest Athletic Conference opponents.

SCOUTING SAINT MARTIN'S
The Saints enter the week with a 5-7 record, including a 1-3 record in the GNAC.  They have lost their last three games, two of which came against conference opponents.  In the last three games, the Saints have not scored more than 72 points.  In two of the last three, opponents have scored 80 points or more.
 
Offensively, Saint Martin's is averaging 67 points per game, while holding opponents to a one-point difference at 68.  Ellin Johansson leads the Saints in scoring, averaging 17.8 points per game.  She also leads her team in rebounding, tied with Saniah Simpson-Patu with 89 rebounds.  Simpson-Patu (14.3) and Makenna Schultz (10.7) make up the two final Saints scoring in double digits.  The Saints are being outrebounded by their opponents, 41-38.
 
The Wildcats swept the Saints in 2016-17, capturing a 78-70 win in Lacey before recording a 63-56 victory in Ellensburg.  Central Washington has not lost in Lacey since the 2014-15 season wherein the Saints eked out a 49-46 victory in the regular season finale.
 
SCOUTING SEATTLE PACIFIC
The 9-2 Falcons are 3-1 in GNAC play and are winners of four of their last five contests.  The last loss for SPU came on Dec. 18 against Oklahoma Christian, but the Falcons bounced back and dealt Montana State Billings a 70-61 loss.
 
Jordan McPhee leads the Falcons in scoring, averaging 15.6 points per game.  She also sits third in rebounding, taking in 5.8 rebounds per game.  The Falcons have just one other player averaging double digits, as Courtney Hollander averages 11.5 points per game.  Julia Haining pulls in a team-high 8.4 rebounds per game, while Hollander averages 8.1.  As a team, Seattle Pacific averages 73 points per game and holds opponents to just 62.  The Falcons outrebound their opponents 43-35.
 
Seattle Pacific swept the Wildcats during the 2016-17 season series with a 65-38 win over the Wildcats in Brougham Pavilion and a 54-51 win in Ellensburg.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats fell to Concordia (Ore.) in a GNAC matchup, 93-89.  Jasmin Edwards led with 23 points, while Taylor Baird added a double-double (10Pts, 11Reb).  Sadie Mensing (17) and Alexis Pana (12) also recorded double-digits in points.
 
The Wildcats scored 44 points in the paint, while their bench chipped in for 18 points, and shot 47.5 percent from the floor. While they hit nearly 50 percent from the floor, they struggled at the line, shooting just 61.5 percent at the charity stripe. 
 
The Cavaliers shot 43.8 percent from the floor, including a 7-for-10 mark from beyond the arc in the first half.  They used the Wildcats' 18 turnovers to their advantage, compiling 21 points off of turnovers.  The Cavaliers' bench recorded 27 points.
