SCOUTING SOUTHWEST BAPTIST
The Bearcats enter the week with an 0-8 record and an 0-6 record in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.
Southwest Baptist fell 48-14 last week against the University of Indianapolis. Quarterback Bryse Salik finished 15 for 32 for 139 yards and one touchdown. Eric Knight led the Bearcats' rushing attack, carrying the ball 28 times for 130 yards. He found the end zone once.
Knight has been SBU's leading rusher all season. In eight games, Knight has rushed 164 times for 596 yards. He has recorded six touchdowns and is averaging 74.5 yards per game. No other rusher on the Bearcat has taken the ball more than 38 times.
Salik has completed 52.2 percent of his passes on the season. In 226 attempts, the true freshman signal caller has completed 118 passes for 1,093 yards. Salik has thrown seven touchdown passes and has been picked off seven times as well.
Matt Lechuga and Connor Ratcliff have been Salik's most prominent targets this season. Lechuga has reeled in 27 passes for 215 yards. Ratcliff has caught 24 passes, for 251 yards, and three touchdowns. Knight has also been a frequent target out of the backfield, catching 20 passes for 122 yards.
As a unit, the Bearcats' offense is averaging 157.4 passing yards and 109.6 rushing yards per game. They average three yards per carry and 9.2 yards per catch.
Defensively, Tyler Curts leads the Bearcats in tackles with 81. He has one sack and one interception. Curts has also forced and recovered one fumble. Tevin Hall and Uwadia Ogbebor have each recorded one interception as well, bringing the Bearcats' season interception total to three. De'shawn Tone leads the SBU defense in tackles for a loss and sacks. He has recorded six sacks, for a loss of 31 yards, and has a total of 10.5 tackles for loss.
The Bearcats' defense is allowing 432.8 yards of offense against per game, including 233.9 yards on the ground. They've recorded eight sacks on the season and forced 16 fumbles. Opponents are averaging 5.4 yards per carry on the ground and 9.2 yards per pass.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats handily defeated Humboldt State University in the Wildcats' final visit to Arcata, 62-24.
Reilly Hennessey completed 14 passes, for 287 yards and one touchdown. The senior signal caller ran for 56 yards and two more touchdowns.
Cedric Cooper ran for 97 yards and four touchdowns, while
Michael Roots added 130 yards and one touchdown.
Ryan Ramones caught three passes for 77 yards.
Tyson Rainwater hauled in a pair of passes for 61 yards and one touchdown.
Uli Ma'ae led the Wildcats' defense with 10 tackles (2S+8A=10T). Gray was right behind with nine (7S+2A=9T) tackles and two interceptions. Greer finished with two and a half sacks for a loss of 16 yards.
Maxwell Nauer tallied one and a half sacks for nine yards lost.
Donte Hamilton recorded a six-yard sack, while Ma'ae and
Elisha Pa'aga each recorded a half-sack each.
POINTS A PLENTY
In their last two games the Wildcats have totaled 122 points. Central Washington has compiled 12 rushing touchdowns over the last two weeks. Cooper is responsible for six of the 12 rushing touchdowns.
GROUND GAME
The Wildcats have had a strong rushing attack all season with Roots and Cooper doing most of the damage out of the backfield. The two backs have combined for 1,565 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns on the year. Hennessey has rushed for 332 yards and nine touchdowns. Roots is averaging 7.9 yards per carry, while Cooper averages 6.1 yards per carry.
BLOCK PARTY
Central Washington has recorded nine blocked kicks on the year. Six of which have come from
Chase DeMoor, who shattered the previous CWU single-season record of three.
