Nampa, Idaho –The Central Washington University women's basketball team's offense was prolific on Saturday night. The Wildcats pummeled the Stanislaus State Warriors 94-59 while shooting 66.7 percent from the field.
The Wildcats (2-0) couldn't miss in Saturday's contest with the Warriors (0-2). The win was aided by a pair of monster runs that lasted the entirety of the second and fourth quarter. The game was close after the first period, with the Wildcats leading 22-20. They'd go on to score 23 points in the second quarter, holding the Warriors to just four points. The Wildcats flexed their muscle again in the fourth quarter, doubling the Warriors point total. The Wildcats outscored the Warriors 25-12.
"Proud of the step we took tonight in playing with more consistent energy over 40 minutes on the floor and from the bench," head coach
Randi Richardson-Thornley said. "Our energy lead to a great team defensive effort and sharing the basketball on the offensive end. There are still aspects of this game we can learn from but happy to be coming home with two wins."
Taylor Shaw lead all scorers with 28 points, going nine-for-12 from the field including seven three-pointers. She pulled down four rebounds, dished out three assists and nabbed two steals. Shaw aided the team in shooting 63.6 percent from deep, going 14-for-22 for the game.
Four other Wildcats scored in double figures.
Alexis Pana had an incredibly efficient night for her team. She scored 16 points while going six-for-seven from the field. She added two assists and three steals.
Kassidy Malcolm chipped in 11 points while adding a team-high eight rebounds.
Kaelie Flores was strong, adding 10 points to her team's performance.
Brianna Phiakhamngon was outstanding off the bench for the Wildcats. She made all five of her shot attempts, finishing the game with 12 points.
Aliyah Pana scored her first collegiate points. She made both of her three-point attempts, finishing the night with six points.
The Wildcats return to Nichiolson Pavilion next Firday at 7:30 p.m. when they host St. Cloud State University.
