The Central Washington University volleyball team will do battle with CSU San Bernardino in a semifinal contest on Friday at 5:00 p.m. in Bellingham, Washington for a spot in Saturday's NCAA West Regional championship game.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
CSU San Bernardino
The Coyotes have been tough to beat in 2018, going 27-2 with a 16-1 record in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. They won their third-straight CCAA title with a 3-1 win over Cal Poly Pomona on November 10. The Wildcats and Coyotes played each other in Ellensburg on August 25. The Coyotes came out on top in three sets.
The Coyotes are led by the CCAA Player of the Year in Alexis Cardoza. Cardoza dominated the league in multiple offensive categories. Her 5.24 points per set average is fifth best in the nation. Jayann DeHoog was named the CCAA Setter of the Year. DeHoog has assisted on 1,015 attacks in 2018, and her 12.08 assists per set is sixth in the NCAA Division II rankings. Erica Chapa, Sascha Dominque and Hailey Jackson join Cardoza and DeHoog as first team All-CCAA members.
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats outlasted Cal State Los Angeles in five sets in the opening round of the NCAA West Regionals. Madison Weg and Shelby Mauritson led the Wildcats with 14 kills a piece. Weg hit at a .268 clip, adding seven digs and four blocks. Mauritson suffered a slow start in Thursday's game, going the entire first set without a kill. She made up for it defensively, adding 13 digs. Bridgette Webb was also stellar for the Wildcats. She had 10 kills on a .304 hitting percentage.

"We need our best effort," head coach Mario Andaya said. "The comforting thing is that we've had this urgency all year and we have a strong understanding of what that is. We are excited to be playing another day and look forward to playing San Bernardino."

The winners of both semifinals will meet in the NCAA West Regional championships on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. in Bellingham, Washington.
