Softball Blanks Cavaliers Behind Strong Pitching Performances by Strasser and Smith

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Central Washington softball team extended its winning streak to eight games thanks to a pair of dominant pitching performances from Lexie Strasser and Kayla Smith resulting in two shutouts by scores of 3-0 and 4-0 over Concordia University.

The Wildcats outhit the Cavaliers 20 to 8 on the day led by Savannah Egbert who went 4 for 8 on the day to keep her batting average at .500.

The Central Washington run production came from all over the lineup as six different Wildcats recorded a RBI on the day led by Theresa Moyle with two in the 3-0 game two victory.

The story of the contests was the performances by the CWU pitching staff.  In game one, Strasser earned her fifth victory of the season (5-3) by going all seven innings.  Strasser allowed just two hits and struck out three batters, using 97 pitches to accomplish the task.  The freshman was perfect through three innings before surrendering her first hit in the top of the fourth.  The Cavaliers had just one base runner reach scoring position.

In the nightcap, Smith was equally effective allowing five hits in six innings of work and struck out a pair of Cavaliers.  Smith improved to 4-0 on the season and induced 14 flyouts.  Smith allowed only two runners to reach second base and threw 79 pitches over the course of the contest.

In total, the CWU pitching staff gave up just one extra-base hit in the game.

The Wildcats are scheduled to take on Western Oregon tomorrow, Mar. 18, but rain in the area might force the games to be rescheduled.  Follow @cwuathletics on Twitter or go to Wildcatsports.com for updates on tomorrow's scheduled doubleheader.
