Baseball Drops Two to MSUB

BILLINGS, Mont. (May 3) – The Central Washington University baseball team (24-24, 19-19 GNAC) dropped both games of its doubleheader with Montana State Billings (30-14, 29-9 GNAC) by scores of 10-6 and 7-4.

The Yellowjackets got the scoring started early, putting up two runs in the second and three in the third.

Christopher Dalto drove in James Smith III in the fourth for the Wildcats' first run, before Mitch Lesmeister singled through the left side in the fifth to score Tristin Parton.

Montana State Billings put the bats to work again in the bottom of the fifth, tallying five runs to stake out a 10-3 lead.

A two-out walk from Ty Deckwa allowed Dustin Braun to single, putting runners on the corners in the top of the sixth.  Smith then took the first pitch he saw over the left field wall, cutting the Yellowjackets' lead to just 10-6.

Talon Derrick and Adam Cox kept the Wildcats' bats quiet for the remainder of the opening game.

Griffin Davis got the start in game two.  Davis went 3.1 innings, allowing two runs, six hits, four walks, and he struck out four.  Dom Baker (1-2) was charged with the loss.  In 1.2 innings Baker allowed five runs, but only one was earned.

The Wildcats found the scoreboard first in the backend.  A flare into shallow left center field from Lesmeister in the top of the third brought around a pair for a 2-0 lead.  The Yellowjackets responded in the bottom half, hitting a two-run homerun to level the score.

Braun then poked a single up the middle to bring around Parton for a 3-2 lead in the fourth.  Lesmeister tacked on an insurance run in the fifth with a solo shot to left.

A solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth cut the Wildcats' lead to 4-3.

The Yellowjackets levelled the score in the sixth with two outs on a throwing error that allowed the tying run to cross home.  The Jackets then piled on three more runs after the error, staking out a 7-4 lead.  Tristan Shockley (5-2) picked up the win after closing the door on the Wildcats.

The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow (May 4) for another doubleheader against Montana State Billings.  First pitch is scheduled for noon MT (11 a.m. PT).
