TURLOCK, Calif. (Sept. 1) – Madison Bradley scored her first goal of the 2018 season, but the Central Washington University (0-1-1) women's soccer team fell to Stanislaus State University (2-0-0) 3-1 in a non-conference matchup.
Neither side could break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes, but both teams did come close.
Bradley got the first chance for the Wildcats, firing a shot on frame that was turned aside by Haley Crook.
KK Wallace found her first chance in the fourth minute, but her shot rose above the cross bar.
In the fifth minute, Stanislaus responded with their first chance on goal. Summer England sent a shot goalward, but it was met by
Kelsey Bechtholdt and kept out.
The Warriors found the scoreboard first. Ilena Rivera took an aerial through ball and won a 1-on-1 in close for her first goal of the night, giving Stanislaus a 1-0 lead.
"Stanislaus is one of the better teams in the CCAA," CWU Head Coach
Michael Farrand said. "Much faster and more direct than Fresno Pacific was against us on Thursday night. We let in a couple soft goals, but I liked our response. We scored a beautiful goal off of a set piece, the first time this year. We are ahead of where we were last year and we continue to move forward and grow."
The Wildcats received a corner kick in the 62
nd minute of play and made the most of it.
Jordan Engman played the corner to
Lexsi Manning, who lifted the ball to Bradley. Bradley's header beat the Stanislaus keeper, levelling the score line at 1-1.
Stanislaus broke the 1-1 draw in the 67
th minute when Rivera get in close and beat the keeper for her second of the night. Mayah Chambers added an insurance marker in the 72
nd minute.
Central finished with five shots, three on goal, two saves, and two corner kicks. Both corner kicks came in the second half. Bradley led the Wildcats with two shots, both on frame.
The Wildcats have a trio of matches at home next week, starting with a non-conference match against Northwest University on Tuesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
