ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Sept. 19) – Charlie Hatem, a Central Washington Athletics Hall of Famer, passed away on Sept. 9.
Hatem was a member of the Wildcats baseball team that reached the NAIA World Series in 1988. He compiled a record of 8-4 in 12 decisions, earning him NAIA All-America honors.
"He was a bulldog," former CWU Head Coach
Ken Wilson said. "He's the type of guy who you knew always had a chance to win when he was on the mound. He was a great competitor and an even better person. He will be deeply missed."
During the 1988 season, Hatem helped guide the Wildcats on the mound through one of the program's toughest schedules. The Wildcats played 19 games against NCAA Division I opponents. They won three against Eastern Washington and split a pair of games against the University of Washington.
Charlie will be lovingly remembered by his partner of 19 years, Rachael Bowker and his children, Cash and Jordan. Charlie will also be fondly remembered by his sister, Kim; stepsisters, Denise (Steve) and Terri (Paul), nieces and nephews and many dear friends.
