Wildcats Win Fourth Straight in Four Sets Over Yellowjackets

Billings, Mont. – It took four sets for the Central Washington University team to pick up their fourth consecutive win. The team continues to roll as the Wildcats stung the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-14, 25,13) on Saturday afternoon.

The Wildcats (16-8, 11-5 GNAC) put together an outstanding performance against the Yellowjackets (7-19, 4-12 GNAC) on Saturday. The Wildcats crushed 57 kills while hitting at a .243 clip. The Wildcats gained a massive advantage from the service line, racking up seven aces to the Yellowjacket's two. Defensively, the Wildcats held the home team to a .159 hitting percentage. The Yellowjackets were only able to convert 42 kills over four sets.

"I love the way we competed when we were challenged," CWU Head Coach Mario Andaya said. "MSUB can score in a lot of different ways so we did a good job of outscoring them. Our passing and service game was key tonight."

The Wildcats trailed early in set one, going down 7-4 to the Yellowjackets. From there, the Wildcats went on an 8-2 run. Bridgette Webb had two kills during the run. The run gave the Wildcats a 12-9 lead.

Later in the set, the Wildcats led 14-12 when they ripped off another strong run. The time, it was a 9-2 run that gave the team a 23-14 lead. The team had kills from Webb, Ashley Kaufman, Julia Mellander, Sierra Sharma during the run. Webb, Kaufman and Mellander all had two kills apiece in that timeframe. The Wildcats would go on to grab the two points they needed to take the set 25-17.

The Wildcats would work their way to a 13-12 lead after a service ace from Kaufman. The Yellowjackets went on to score four consecutive points to go up 16-13.
