Men's Basketball Hosts Multnomah

ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Central Washington University men's basketball team hosts Multnomah University in a non-conference game on Saturday.

TOYS FOR TOTS DRIVE
The Central Washington University Athletics department, along with Wildcat Men's and Women's Basketball are teaming up with the area Marine Corps to sponsor a Toys for Tots Drive during Saturday night's non-conference doubleheader.
 
Anyone that donates a new, unwrapped toy at the doubleheader will receive one free general admission ticket to the doubleheader contest. The toys will be donated to Toys for Tots to support disadvantaged children who may not otherwise receive any presents during the holidays. Fans who bring a new toy can drop them off in the main lobby of Nicholson Pavilion upon arrival.

The Lions enter the week with a record of 6-5.  They are 0-2 in Cascade play.  They have lost three of their last four outings, including a 110-89 defeat at the hands of the College of Idaho most recently.

Multnomah averages 102 points per game, a third of which come from just one player.  Justin Martin is averaging 31.8 points per game for the Lions.  He is averaging 34.5 minutes per game and shooting 45.9 percent from the floor.  He has only recorded 20 rebounds, however.  Not only has Martin led the scoring effort, but he has found his teammates when they're open.  Martin has recorded 86 assists through 11 games.

Outside of Martin, Zach Richardson (17.0), Forrest Smith (13.8), and Trey Fountain (10.4) are all averaging over 10 points per game.  Fountain has recorded 48 assists.  Richardson leads all players not named Martin in three-point field goal attempts with 104, while leading in three-point field goal percentage percentage, knocking down shots at a clip of 46.2 percent.

Stepan Zavydovskyy leads the Lions in rebounding, hauling in over six boards per game.  He has accumulated a total of 82 rebounds, thus far.  The Lions are being out rebounded by their opponents, 49.2-36.3.

Despite averaging over 100 points per night, Multnomah has yet to win a game in which they did not reach the century mark in points. The Lions have attempted 876 shots so far on the season with 577 of their attempts coming from behind the arc.  They are knocking down shots a clip of 39.7 from three-point land and 44.7 percent overall from the floor.

LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats dropped their last contest to Saint Martin's University in a close contest, 79-69.

Central led for nearly 13 minutes in the first half, but the Saints mounted a comeback in the second and held on for the victory.

Saint Martin's retook the lead with just under 10 minutes to play on a three from Malloy.  A jumper from Woody pushed the Wildcats' lead back to five, before a three from Logan Rooney kept the Saints within two. A free throw from Smith put CWU up by three, but a pair of free throws from Saint Martin's John Moore made it a one-point game.  Woody pushed the lead back to three with 5:45 to play with a bucket in the paint.  The Saints responded with another bucket from Moore, 67-66.  Moore then hit a free throw, levelling the game at 67-67.  A dunk from Gilson gave the Wildcats another lead, 69-67.
 
Jennings responded with a three for the Saints, giving SMU a 70-69.  With 3:47 left in regulation, a jumper from Gilson put the Wildcats back ahead 71-70.  A free throw from Baker gave the Wildcats a two-point lead, before a layup from Rooney tied it again.  The Saints and Wildcats traded points and baskets, swapping one-point leads.
 
With just 20 seconds on the clock, Baker gave the Wildcats a 76-75 lead.  A jumper from Jennings put the Saints ahead for the final time, 77-76.  Jennings tacked on a pair of free throws to seal the contest.
 
Central Washington scored 48 points in the paint.  The Wildcats' reserves scored 40 points.  They recorded 13 second chance points, while SMU only managed four.  There were a mélange of lead changes, totaling 17 times throughout the game.  Baker led the Wildcats with 19 points, while Lucas finished with 13, and Woody notched 12.  Baker also recorded a team-high eight rebounds.


CWU V MULTNOMAH HISTORY
Central Washington is 2-0 against the Lions since 2008.  Both victories came in a maelstrom of scoring for the Wildcats.

On November 22, 2008, the Crimson and Black routed the Lions in a 135-50 victory.  Then, six years and a month later, the Wildcats dropped 125 points and allowed just 68.  Dom Williams scored 22 points in the win.
