ELLENSBURG, Wash. — The Central Washington University women's rugby team is excited to announce the signing of Abby Fearey.
Fearey is a 5-foot-7 flanker from San Marcos, California. She played club rugby for the Coastal Dragons. During her time with San Marcos High School and the Coastal Dragons, Fearey was named Most Valuable Player the last three seasons. She also captained a High School All-American camp match, tournament, or selection game four times. Fearey also captained the Red Shirts in Vegas during 2019.
"Abby Fearey is one of the most well-rounded athletes in this recruiting class," CWU Head Coach
Trevor Richards said. "She is tough as nails, has an exceptionally high work-rate, and is a fantastic leader; what's not to like? We expect Abby to bring in her high level of experience, leadership, and technical understanding and elevate her teammates in turn. No doubt Ms. Fearey will quickly become a stalwart player for us."
She was most recently selected to USA Rugby's U19 Girls Winter Camp at the Chula Vista Elite Athlete Training Center. She attended a U18 summer assembly in Canada during August.
"I chose CWU because I felt a sense of community and camaraderie unmatched by any other rugby program I had witness and or experienced," Fearey said of her decision to sign with CWU. "I wanted to be a part of a special team that contained extraordinary potential, heart, talent and determination, and I found that at CWU."
