Men's Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Against SMU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University men's basketball team hosts GNAC foe Saint Martin's for a weekend matchup.

Saint Martin's opened GNAC play with an 84-63 victory over Northwest Nazarene University on Thursday.  The Saints improved to 3-4 overall and 1-0 in GNAC competition.
 
The Saints opened the season by dropping three consecutive games to UC San Diego, Westminster College, and Dixie State.  They snapped their skid with a 99-76 victory over Capilano on November 19.  Saint Martin's is 3-1 since the Dixie State Classic.  In all three of their victories, the Saints have scored at least 84 points.  They have scored at least 80 points in every game since the Dixie State Classic.
 
Leading Saint Martin's offense is Demonte Malloy.  The junior guard is averaging 16.7 points per game.  He dropped 19 points against the Nighthawks and 22 points against Evergreen State in the game prior.  His season high came against Westminster College when he recorded 26 points and shot 10-19 from the field.  Malloy has made multiple three pointers in four of the Saints' seven games.
 
Three other Saints are also averaging double digits.  CJ Jennings (15.3), Alex Schumacher (15.1), and Marky Adams (11.4), alongside Malloy, are averaging 58.6 points a night or 73.6 percent of the Saints' scoring.  Saint Martin's has used a relatively short bench this year.  Caden Smith and Logan Rooney are the only two players outside of the starting five to appear in all seven games. 
 
Marky Adams leads the Saints in rebounding, hauling in 9.3 rebounds per game.  Malloy sits second at 8.6 bounds per game.  Saint Martin's is outrebounding its opponents 41 to 39 on average. 
 
LAST TIME OUT
Central Washington dropped its GNAC opener to Seattle Pacific University, 76-66. 
 
Kevin Baker made his Wildcat debut.  He tallied 14 points, four assists, and four rebounds.  Jeryn Lucas also picked up 14 points. 
 
The Wildcats shot 40.7 percent from the floor.  Central's bench recorded 36 points.
 
CWU v SMU HISTORY
Central is 21-14 against Saint Martin's University since 2003.  The Wildcats are currently riding a six-game losing streak to the Saints.  In the confines of Nicholson Pavilion, Central holds a 10-7 record. 
 
The Wildcats last victory over Saint Martin's came on January 14, 2017.  Central claimed an 84-69 victory over the Saints as Jawan Stepney led the way with 22 points.  Naim Ladd chipped in 17, while Terry Dawn added another 13.
