Road Rivalry Awaits Men's Basketball

ELLENSBURG, Wash. (Feb. 6) – The Central Washington University men's basketball team has a pair of road trip games ahead of them this week this week.

"This is a big road trip for us as the conference continues to take shape. I know the team is looking forward to the game at WWU tomorrow and the environment that the rivalry creates," CWU Head Coach Brandon Rinta said.  "SFU is playing really well right now and have been able to pick up some big wins. We need to bounce back from last week and continue to find ways to elevate our level of play."

SCOUTING WESTERN WASHINGTON
The Vikings come into the week with an 11-11 overall record, which includes a 5-7 GNAC record. Western comes into the game following three straight losses. Central came out on the losing side of the last meeting between the two teams.
 
Trevor Jasinsky leads the team in scoring with a 19.3 points per game. Jasinsky has recorded at least 20 points in five out of Westerns last six games. In the first meeting between the two teams, Jasinsky had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 1 block to go along with his 1 steal.
 
One other Viking also averages double digit scoring and looks to continue his consistent play. Luke Lovelady (10.1 ppg) is the only other player averaging double digit scoring. Lovelady leads the team in shooting percentage with a mark of 63.6%.
 
Western averages 81.4 points per game, while only allowing 76.3 points per game. The Vikings are out rebounding opponents 38.6 to 38.7 lead by Jasinsky with 7.2 rebounds per game.
 
The Vikings are a dominant 6-3 on their home court and picked up the win in the first meeting of the season with the Wildcats by score of 73-65.
 
SCOUTING SIMON FRASER
Simon Fraser come into the game with a perfect .500 record overall however, only four of those wins have come from GNAP play.
 
The Clan comes into the game winning two out of their last three games including a 112-107 triple overtime win at home against Montana State Billings. Michael Provenzano went off for 32 points while dishing out six assists in his 44 minutes of play. Othniel Spence also chipped in 23 points and eight rebounds.
 
Julian Roche has started in all 20 of The Clan's games this year and is leading the team in scoring by way of 14.9 points per game as well as rebounding with a 6.9 rebound per game mark. Spence (14.6), Wilfried Balata (12.9),  and Provenzano (11.1) are also averaging double digit points. Provenzano is the main ball handler and commands the offense with 4.8 assists per game.
 
Simon Fraser is averaging 82.0 points per game while only allowing 76.5 point per game to their opponents. As a team, they shoot 47.3% from the field as well as 71.6% from the free throw line.
 
In the first meeting of the season, The Clan dropped a close one in overtime with the Wildcats by just one. Julian Roche had 23 points while Jasdeep Singh had 17 points and Balata pitched in 16 points of his own. The Wildcat offense was just too much as they had six players in double digits (Boykin, Lucas, Price, Hudson, Montoya, and Poquette).
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Wildcats come into the week losing their last four games three of which were at home.
 
Gamaun Boykin leads the Wildcat offense with 13.4 points per game while shooting 80% from the charity stripe. However, Jeryn Lucas also had a great game last week with 28 points and five rebounds against Northwest Nazarene.
 
In their last meeting with The Clan  Boykin(15), Lucas (13), Price (12), Hudson (12), Montoya(13), and Poquette (10) all scored in double digits in a nail-biter win (85-84). Central shot 47.5% and 72% from the free throw line.
 
Last time out against the Vikings, Matt Poquette led the Wildcats with 18 points while Jackson Price chipped in 14 of his own. The Wildcats racked up 42 rebounds as a team and had 10 assists lead by Boykin's seven rebounds and three assists.
