Burnaby, B.C. – The Central Washington University men's basketball team (9-12, 3-10) traveled north of the boarder for their second matchup with the Simon Fraser Clan (11-10, 5-8) in a Great Northwest Athletic Conference matchup. The two teams met in early January in Ellensburg which resulted in a Wildcat win.
The two teams started the game out shooting the ball well. Naim Ladd started the Wildcat scoring with a lay-up that d continued to make the free throw to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game. The Clan came back with a three pointer from Othniel Spence to reclaim the lead, 5-3. Jeryn Lucas wasted no time and came right back with two of his own three's.
Central had an 11-5 lead before The Clan went on a 18-4 run for a 24-15 advantage. The Clan held the lead the rest of the game and held at least a nine point lead for the remainder of the game.
The Wildcats struggle came from shooting. In the first half, they shot a mere 31.8% from the field and just 33% from behind the arc. Only one Central player was able to score double digits. Gamaun Boykin scored 22 points on the night going 50 percent from the field. He was 6-7 from the charity stripe and added five rebounds to go along with two assists.
Central had a tough time slowing down The Clan offensive attack. Simon Fraser had five players score in double digits including 25 from Jasadeep Singh. Spence (15), Wilfried Balata (10), Julian Roche (15), and Jordan Muir-Keung (12) were also all in double digits on the night. As a team, The Clan shot 61.4% from the field.
The Wildcats travel home after a long three-game road trip. The Wildcats will play both Alaska teams next week in Ellensburg as Fairbanks and Anchorage come to town on Thursday and Saturday. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
