Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Soccer Falls to No. 8 SPU

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University women's soccer team fell to No. 8 Seattle Pacific University, 7-0.

"Seattle Pacific is a fantastic team that capitalizes on their chances," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said. "They were able to break us down and fundamentally outplay us, especially in the second half. First half we had some chances at goal but just weren't able to get it in. We need to keep fighting and have a short-term memory as we move onto NNU."

The Wildcats (2-9-0, 1-6-0) were outshot 22-2. Seattle Pacific put 15 of their shots on frame. Central managed a pair of corners, one in each half. The 'Cats limited SPU's chances to nine in the first half but the Falcons put up double-digit chances in the back end. Offensively, however, the Wildcats sputtered and were kept at arm's length by the Falcons.

Liz Canton made the start in goal and made six saves before being lifted for Kassandra Jaggard. The freshman keeper made a pair of saves in her debut.

The Falcons (9-1-0, 6-1-0) seemingly scored in pairs. Chloe Gellhaus opened the scoring for SPU in the 23rd minute, before Lauren Forster added an insurance marker three minutes later.

Sophia Chilczuk notched the Falcons' third goal in the 49th minute. Claire Neder sent a ball into the six where Chilczuk tangled with members of the Wildcats' defense. Chilczuk managed to redirect the incoming cross for the goal. Just 20 seconds later, SPU struck again. Sophie Beadle was fouled as she entered the right side of the box and the Falcons were awarded the penalty attempt. Claire Neder buried the penalty inches inside the left post for a 4-0 lead.

Forster added a second tally in the 67th minute. She one-timed a pass from AJ DePinto. Under three minutes later, DePinto scored a goal of her own. Jacqueline Blakeley added the final marker for the Falcons.

Central Washington is back at home on Saturday (Oct. 16) as they host Northwest Nazarene University. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium.
