Packwood Scores in Return as 'Cats Pounce on Saints

LACEY, Wash. — The Central Washington University women's soccer team utilized three different goal scorers in their 3-2 road win over Saint Martin's University.

The Wildcats (3-10-0, 2-7-0) scored three second half goals to edge the Saints (3-10-0, 2-7-0) for their first road victory. Liz Canton made eight stops in the contest. Casey Park's 75th minute goal stands as the game-winner.

"We did a fantastic job about playing a full 90 and grinding it out till the very end," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said.  "Casey had a great game and made an impact as soon as she stepped on the field. We were able to get multiple goals, which is always great, and having three different goal scorers in a match shows how well we got into the attack. I'm proud of the hard work they showed today!"

Saint Martin's had the momentum advantage in the first half, outshooting CWU 10-3. However, shots on goal were much closer. The Saints put four of their shots on frame, while Central put two. Despite having less chances, Central was more efficient with the chances they received in the opening stanza. Seven of SMU's shots came in the first 26 minutes.

After the restart, both offenses manufactured opportunities early. Saint Martin's Daeh Lindquist and Central's Park were both denied by saves in the first four minutes of the back end.

The deadlock broke in the 52nd minute. Makinzie Packwood found Grace Jackson open in front of the net and Jackson buried her chance for a 1-0 lead.

A stop from Canton kept the game at 1-0 just a few minutes later.

After Tayler Goodpaster leveled the score at 1-1 in the 57th minute with a goal of her own, Packwood put Central back on top. It was the first time Packwood returned to the Wildcats' lineup since October 9 against Saint Martin's where she tallied an assist.

Leading 2-1, Park pushed the Wildcats' advantage to two with her third goal of the season.

Peyton Aselton added a late goal for the Saints, but Central held on for the win. The Wildcats swept the season series against Saint Martin's 2-0-0.

The Crimson and Black are back in action on Saturday, October 21, in Monmouth, Oregon. Kick-off is slated for noon at Western Oregon.
