Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Wolves Wound Wildcats

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University women's soccer team fell to 1-8-0 on the season, including an 0-4-0 mark in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play, after a 3-0 loss to Western Oregon University.

The Wolves (3-5-2, 2-2-0) took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute and did not look back. Jada Foster's shot from deep range slipped past the keeper. The Wildcats never fully recovered after the Wolves' first marker.

"Our girls were able to play almost a full 90 minutes," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said. "That's something we haven't been able to do yet. The first goal was a bummer because we allowed it to dictate the rest of the game. Each time out we have kept improving and I know the results will come."

Western Oregon outshot Central 14-10, including a 9-4 total in shots on goal. The Wildcats conceded 10 corners and received just one. The two sides were dead even in shots after 45 minutes with seven each.

Liz Canton was tested in just the third minute of action, keeping a chance by Camille Darland out. The Wildcats first effort on goal came from Makinzie Packwood in the sixth minute. Canton was called on again in the 16th minute, denying Gabby Pulliam.

Central managed a trio of shots in short succession. Lily Newberry's effort was blocked, before Paige Devine had a chance on goal denied by Wheeler. The final shot rang the crossbar off the boot of Sophia Keenan.

After Foster's goal in the 23rd minute, Western Oregon struck again in the 26th. Erika Moreno found Piper Matson on the right wing with a through ball, allowing Matson to slip past the defense and slip a low shot to the far post for the brace.

Keenan nearly cut the deficit in half in the 35th, but Wheeler made the stop for Western Oregon. Keenan and Devine kept the Wildcats' pressure up on offense in the 39th minute but both of their shots were blocked by Wolves' defenders.

Western Oregon had three chances in the three-plus minutes of the opening stanza. Two shots missed the net, while Canton turned the third aside.

The Wildcats made a goalkeeping change at the half, bringing Megan Fox in for the back half. Both Canton and Fox finished with three saves.

Fox was spared no quarter as the Wolves' tested her in the fifth minute after the restart. Liz Parker's initial effort was parried by Fox. A second and third effort from Parker resulted in another save for the 'Cats keeper.

Central had a chance from Maci Parke in the 56th minute off a direct kick. The crossbar bailed the Wolves out, keeping the score at 2-0.

A Wolves' shot from the wing in the 61st minute was kept out by Fox but the rebound stayed in play just long enough for Parker to score on a near zero-angle shot from the goal line for a 3-0 edge.

The Wildcats' chances were few and far between from the 61st minute out. Casey Park found herself in the face of the goal in the 73rd minute but sent her shot high. Bella Brown had the Wildcats' final chance as time waned in the 90th minute. Her effort was stymied by Olivia Holdenried, who entered the contest in the 75th minute.

Central Washington is back at home on Saturday, October 9, to host Saint Martin's University. Kick-off is slated for 2:00 p.m. at Tomlinson Stadium.
