Keenan Scores, 'Cats Fall to SPU

SEATTLE, Wash. — The Central Washington University women's soccer team fell to Seattle Pacific, 6-1, in their penultimate match of the season.

The Falcons (14-1-1, 11-1-1) remain undefeated at interlay Stadium. They scored four unanswered goals in the first half before the Wildcats (4-13-0, 3-10-0) tallied their lone marker less than a minute into the second stanza.

Seattle Pacific recorded 15 shots in the first 45 minutes, 11 of which were on frame. Liz Canton made seven stops in the opening period. The Falcons held Central to just a pair of shots, neither on frame, in the front end. Both shots came late in the half from Makinzie Packwood.

Central recovered offensively in the second half. They recorded 10 shots in the back end, including six on goal. Seattle Pacific totaled 23 shots for the match.

"We played with grit and were able to get one away," Assistant Coach Emmy Koflanovich said. "Second half was a lot better and we were able to take 10 shots. We had a good bit of our possession in the final third. SPU is a great team who knows how to get into the attack and put their chances away."

Makena Rietz opened the scoring for SPU. A low cross from the right side found Rietz and she buried her chance. Five minutes later, Sophie Beadle added an insurance marker. The Falcons' third goal came in the 32nd minute. Sophia Chilczuk one-touched her shot off a cross, making it 3-0. An errant back pass led to the Falcons' final goal of the half. Lauren Forster scooped up the loose ball and fired it home in the 35th minute.

Just 30 seconds into the second half, Sophia Keenan struck for the Wildcats. Sydney Lowe sent a cross into the box, where Keenan headed it into the back of the net for her third goal of the year.

The Falcons responded immediately as Jaqueline Blakeley made it 5-1 only 48 seconds after Keenan's goal.

Central managed to keep the Falcons from tallying again until the 83rd minute. Mia Mahaffey made it a 6-1 game, scoring on a one-timed effort.

Late life from the Wildcats resulted in a flurry of shots. Keenan's effort missed wide, before being gathered again. Casey Park's shot came next, but it was blocked by a defender. Megan Meindersee finally slipped a shot through, but backup goalkeeper Kaitlynn Knocke turned it away.

Megan Fox came on in goal for the Wildcats in the second half. She made a pair of saves.

Central concludes the regular season on Saturday, as the 'Cats host Montana State Billings at Tomlinson Stadium for Senior Day. Kick-off is scheduled for noon.
