Wildcats Drop Series to the Nighthawks

NAMPA, ID.—The Wildcats fell to the Nighthawks in back-to-back games today to give the series to the Nighthawks. The 'Cats fell game one 7-3 and game two 3-1.

QUOTABLE
"We battled all day and had a chance at the end of both games, just couldn't get the offense going the way we wanted." Said CWU Head Coach Desi Storey

GAME 1
Brayde Hirai took the hill for the 'Cats to start day number two and game three against the Nighthawks. Mitch Lesmiester stayed hot to start the first inning with a single. The 'Cats were unable to muster up offense to bring him around, so they closed out the first scoreless. The Nighthawks on the other hand got started early again, putting up two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead 2-0.

The 'Cats went down 1-2-3 in back-to-back innings in the second and third. Mitch Lesmeister doubled in his second at-bat of the day, he tried to breathe life into the 'Cats offense but again they failed to bring him around. The Nighthawks answered in the bottom of the fourth scoring another run to extend their lead to 3-0. In the sixth inning the 'Cats were able to find some offense, scoring two runs to cut the Nighthawks lead 5-2. The Nighthawks tacked on two more in the bottom of the seventh, extending their lead out to 7-2.

The 'Cats were able to add another run in the top of the ninth before falling to the Nighthawks, 7-3.

Mitch Lesmeister led the offense with two doubles and a run batted in. Justin Hampson and Austin Ohland also had a double each. Michael Peter and Justin Culpepper had a run batted in each as well.

GAME 2
Reid Rassmussen took the hill for the 'Cats in game two of the day, and the final game of the series. The first few innings were quiet for the Central offense. Justin Hampson singled in the first and Austin Ohland in the second, and Jason Hill in the third. The 'Cats would end up going 1-2-3 in the fourth and fifth inning.

The Nighthawks had tacked on two runs in the fourth and a single in the fifth, taking the 3-0 lead late in game two. Zach Berryman led off the sixth with a single that was soon followed up by a double from Mitch Lesmiester. Austin Ohland drew a walk however the 'Cats offense was unable to plate a run before the inning ended.

The 'Cats tried to make a run offensively while down to their final three outs. Michael Peter singled to kick off the inning, Jason Hill followed him up with another single to bring the tying run to the plate. A fielder's choice and a walk to Justin Hampson had the 'Cats with the bases loaded and two outs. Mitch Lesmeister drew a clutch walk to bring in Hill for the run batted in. The 'Cats went down on strikes, falling to the Nighthawks 3-1.
