Wildcat Volleyball Opens 2021 at SPU

ELLENSBURG, WA.—The Central Washington Wildcat Volleyball team heads to Seattle Pacific University to kick off their spring 2021 season.

"It's exciting to know we get a chance to compete. We are grateful for the protocols in place that are allowing us to play in a safe environment, and for those who have worked so hard to provide this opportunity." Said CWU Head Coach Mario Andaya. "Our players have continued to grow in training, but this is a great opportunity for us to grow as a team.  The overlying theme is to enjoy the moment this weekend while competing at a high level.  It will also give us an opportunity to identify things we are good at, and of course the things we need to work on moving forward."

SCOUTING THE FALCONS
The Falcons have already kicked off their spring season and currently sit at 4-3. The Falcons took down Northwest University thrice, all of which were straight set wins, and Saint Martin's University only once. Two of their losses belong to Alaska Anchorage and the third to Saint Martin's University. All of the Falcons matches this year have gone either three or the full five sets.

The Falcons have won sets against opponents by eleven to five. On the attack, the Falcons average a .217 attack percentage alongside twelve kills a set. Ten assists per set has been on par with their opponents however they have had the edge on serves, scoring two aces a set so far this season. Maddie Pruden is the offensive threat for the Falcons, with an attack percentage of .364 and just over two kills a set. The Falcons make few mistakes, having only an error or two every set this year. On defense the Falcon's average thirteen digs per set and just under three blocks a set. It's the trio of Maddie Batiste, Lindsay Rosenthal, and Paige Dawson that average half of the digs the Falcons defense puts up a set. It is Hannah Hair however, who the Falcons look to at the net with twenty-eight blocks this year so far.

FIRST TIME OUT FOR THE 'CATS
This weekend's matchup is the first for the 'Cats this spring. The last full season they played, the 'Cats posted an 18-11 overall record. The Wildcats had made the postseason but fell to the #1 seeded Cal State San Bernardino team.

Last year, the 'Cats averaged just thirteen kills alongside roughly an ace or two per set. The 'Cats put up .191 attack percentage while holding opponents below them at .159. The 'Cats average a strong twelve assists per set alongside only twenty-three ball handling errors all year to their opponents forty. On defense they fell just short of their opponents averaging only 2.1 blocks however they easily out-dug their opponents per set with just over eighteen.
