BELLIGNHAM, WASH.—Central Washington dropped a pair of volleyball matches to Western Washington on Saturday. The Wildcats lost the opener 3-2, before getting swept in the nightcap, 3-0.
First match – Western Washington 3, Central Washington 2 (23-25, 16-25, 25-19, 25-16, 15-11)
The Wildcats (1-6) opened the match strong by winning the first two sets, but they couldn't hold onto the early momentum as the Vikings (7-1) rallied for a 3-2 win.
MacKenzy Borek led the Wildcats with 13 kills, while
Laynie Erickson added 11.
Sydney Remsberg directed the Wildcats offense with 27 assists, while also contributing 18 digs.
Kennedy Kibby had 15 assists.
Hannah Stires paced the defense with 25 digs.
Emma Daoud-Hebert had seven total blocks, while Borek added four and
Carly Gibbon chipped in three more.
Second match – Western Washington 3, Central Washington 0 (25-19, 25-18, 25-18)
The second match of the day was all Vikings. Western hit .287 as a team, compared to .121 for the Wildcats.
Kylie Thorne led the Wildcats with 13 kills.
Rachel Lambrecht had 12 assists.
Defensively,
Shaunessy Fisk had 15 digs and Thorne added 12.
Taylor Chaney recorded four total blocks.
The Wildcats close out their abbreviated season next weekend when the host the Vikings for a pair of matches at Noon and 5 p.m., Saturday, May 8 at Nicholson Pavilion.
