Wildcats Drop GNAC Conference Series to Nighthawks

NAMPA, Ida.—The Central Washington University Baseball team dropped game two and the GNAC conference series to the Nighthawks after a hard fought game.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"We showed so much heart this year and especially this weekend. We came up short at the end, but this group never stopped working, believing, and playing hard all season. I could not be prouder of our guys and what they did this season."

CENTRAL WASHINGTON 6 - NORTHWEST NAZARENE 9
An error by the Wildcats allowed the Nighthawks to jump out to a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. A six-pack of walks followed by a timely single in the second allowed the Nighthawks to open it up. After two the Nighthawks led 5-0.

The Wildcats took care of the Nighthawk offense quickly in the third. A pair of singles and an error by the Nighthawks allowed the Wildcats to load the bases quickly. A double by Mitch Lesmeister brought around Adam Fahsel and Zach Berryman to score the first runs for the Crimson and Black. The Nighthawks were still out in front 2-5 after three.

A quiet fourth, fifth, and sixth inning for the Nighthawks gave the Wildcats a chance to strike once again in the sixth. Michael Peter doubled down the left field line, and fly ball and an error allowed him to come around and score. Another error by the Nighthawks later in the inning allowed Jason Hill to come around and score. The Wildcats had cut the lead to 4-5 after six.

After a quiet seventh the Nighthawks came back and tacked on another run in the eighth with solo home run. The Wildcats answered quickly, a trio of doubles from Adam Fahsel, Zach Berryman and Michael Copeland plated two more runs and the Wildcats had tied it 6-6 after eight.

A pair of walks and singles led to the Nighthawks extending their lead to start the ninth. The Wildcats put up two hits in the bottom of the inning but came up just short. The Wildcats fought a hard game but fell to the Nighthawks 9-6.

The Wildcats closed out their season with a 16-14 overall record.
