Wildcats Add Versatile Weapon to 2021 Class

BRISBANE, AUS.—The Central Washington University Women's basketball team signed Shaylee Coulter-Faamafu from Brisbane State High School in Brisbane, Australia, to their 2021 class.

QUOTING HEAD COACH RANDI RICHARDSON-THORNLEY
"It's been great getting to know Shaylee, her mother Jacqueline, and her trainer Jalen. The more we talked with Shaylee and her support system, the more I knew Shaylee was going to be a great addition to our Wildcat family."

Coulter-Faamafu hails from Brisbane, Australia where she attended Brisbane State High School. Coulter-Faamafu competed in the QGSSSA (Queensland Girls Secondary Schools Sport Association) where she earned a spot on the QGSSSA Premier Team in back-to-back seasons.

"I love Shaylee's size, versatility, and athleticism. With her skill set in being able to shoot the three and play on the perimeter she will fit in great with our system and have the ability to impact multiple positions. Shaylee will have the ability to provide mismatch opportunities for us playing as both a Guard and a Forward. Her size and athleticism are also exciting from a rebounding standpoint."

The Australian Native also competed in the FIBA (Federation Internationale de Basketball Amateur) Oceania Cup where she earned a bronze medal as a member of the Samoan National Team. Through the Oceania U17 Cup she averaged just over thirty-one minutes, seven points, eleven defensive and three offensive rebounds per game. Coulter-Faamafu also earned South West Metro NBL1 Squad honors in 2021.

When asked about choosing Central Washington University, Coulter-Faamafu said "I am very family orientated so when the coaches and team were so welcoming and kind throughout the recruiting process, I felt as if they would make me feel at home. It's a home away from home in a way."
