Comeback Falls Short as Wildcats Lose 3-4 to Wolves

ELLENSBURG, Wash. Despite falling to an 0-4 deficit, the Central Washington University women's soccer team mounted a comeback that fell just short as the Wildcats fell by a score of 3-4 on Senior Day.
 
"The girls fought hard to come back and I'm proud of the energy they gave," Head Coach Lindsey Lee. "I'm proud of our seniors."
 
In the 18th minute, the Wolves striked first. Chloe Smith scored on a ball from Elizabeth Parker. The Wildcats struggled to generate pressure in response to the opening goal.
 
The Wolves continued to get hotter, scoring twice in six minutes later in the half. Alyssa Talkington hit Savannah Taylor for the WOU second goal. Alyssa Talkington scored her goal in the 38th minute on an assist from Olivia Johnsrud. The first half ended 0-3.
 
Western Oregon continued to add to their lead in the 53rd minute. Briana Kubli found the back of the net on an assist from Erika Moreno to give the Wolves a four-goal lead.
 
The CWU comeback began in the 67th minute. Jordan Bartlow scored her third goal of the year, assisted by Ashley Peterson.
 
Emily Darcy added her fourth of the year in the 79th minute, assisted by Finn Sprankle. In the 82nd minute, Bartlow scored her second goal of the game and fourth on the season on a penalty kick.
 
The comeback sputtered as the Wolves held on. The 'Cats fell with a final score of 3-4.
 
CWU had 11 shots, six of which ended up on goal. Bartlow led the team in shots (4). Kassandra Jaggard and Morgan Blankenship split time in goal. Blankenship recorded four saves in her half of play.
