ELLENSBURG, Wash.—The second season begins this weekend for Central Washington women's rugby when the Wildcats face Life University in the opening round of the USA Rugby D1 Elite Playoffs, 11 a.m., Saturday in Marietta, Ga.
Saturday's contest is a rematch of last season's playoffs when Life defeated CWU, 29-20, in Ellensburg.
THE MATCHUP
Central Washington hasn't played since an 18-14 loss to BYU on March 26. The Wildcats have had three matches canceled this spring, due mostly to CoVID-related restrictions with opponents traveling from Canada.
Life, meanwhile, is 20-3 overall since the start of the fall season. The Running Eagles last played when they defeated the Atlanta Harlequins, 25-5, on April 2.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday's meeting will be the eighth all-time between Life and CWU. The Running Eagles lead the series, 5-2. Central's last victory against Life was a 10-5 win in Marietta on March 27, 2021.
The Wildcats and Running Eagles first met during the 2014-15 season.
QUOTING CWU HEAD COACH MATTHEW RAMIREZ
"There's nothing quite like playoff rugby. All the hours of hard work and dedication put in this year by the team has been leading up to this weekend. We know Life is a well-skilled and fast team and it will be a challenge. It's been a great week of preparation for us. We are staying in the process in the moment, but we are more than excited to get to that kickoff."
