KENNESAW, Ga.—Central Washington started strong but couldn't hang on down the stretch as the Wildcats suffered a 24-14 loss to Life in the quarterfinals of the USA Rugby College 7s National Championship, Sunday at Kennesaw State University.
The Wildcats advance to the knockout round after finishing with a 2-1 record in pool play, with wins against American International and Penn State. Despite Sunday's loss, head coach
Matthew Ramirez was more than pleased with his team's showing.
"Credit to Life on a well-played quarterfinal," he said. "It was a great match and we saw a quite a few younger players step up. Lots to build on for the future. This squad has showed a ton of character all year and have earned a well-deserved break. We have a lot to look forward to heading into the Fall when we start again."
On Sunday,
Tessa Hann opened the scoring with a try in the game's first minute. Maryjane Pasioles made the conversion and Central has a quick 7-0 lead.
Life came right back with three straight trys and took a 17-7 lead into halftime.
Life added another try for a 24-7 lead before Hann capped all the scoring with her second try of the game. The Pasioles conversion provided the final score of 24-14.
