Wildcats Head to Los Angeles for Four-Match Regional Tournament

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Central Washington University volleyball team begins a four-match weekend in Los Angeles, Calif. as they take on the Cal State LA Golden Eagles. The match is slated to begin at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1. They'll also face Chaminade, Biola and Cal State San Bernardino across the weekend.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Golden Eagles enter Thursday's matchup with a 2-2 record after splitting their matches at the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham, Wash. over the weekend. They won matches against Ferris State and Simon Fraser.

In 2021, Cal State LA finished with a 20-10 record. They made a run in the postseason until they ran into Western Washington, who swept them in the NCAA West Region Championship Match.

The Wildcats will take on the Chaminade Silverswords on Friday, Sept. 2 at 9:30 a.m. Chaminade enters the weekend with a 3-4 record. They finished 2021 with a 27-6 record, but CWU ended their season in the NCAA Division II West Regional.

In their early match on Saturday, Sept. 3, CWU will face the Biola Eagles. They enter the weekend with a 1-2 record and finished 2021 with a 20-8 record. Last year, CWU swept Biola in an early-season invitational.

Wrapping up the weekend, CWU will battle against the Cal State San Bernardino Coyotes. The Coyotes enter the weekend 4-0 and are ranked seventh in the most recent AVCA Division II Coaches Poll. In 2021, Cal State San Bernardino finished with a 26-4 record but fell to the Cal State LA Golden Eagles in the NCAA West Regional.

THE WILDCATS
CWU enters the weekend with the same record as the Golden Eagles after splitting their opening matches at the Rosella Meier Fall Classic in Kearney, Neb.

The Wildcats started their season by getting swept by #2 Washburn, but bounced back with convincing victories over Sioux Falls and Minot State. The 'Cats fell just short of upsetting #10 Nebraska Kearney and lost in five sets.
