BURNABY, B.C. - Looking to expand off their first win of the season, the Central Washington University football team will face off against the Simon Fraser Red Leafs in Burnaby, B.C. at 1:00 p.m.
 
Saturday's matchup will be the first game of the 2022 season for the Red Leafs, as they look to improve from a 1-7 record from 2021.
 
"We're expecting them to come out and make it extremely difficult on us," CWU Head Coach Chris Fisk said. "They've had six weeks to prepare for us, so I'm sure they've got some tricks up their sleeves."
 
SFU returns their leading passing from 2021, Justin Seiber. He passed for 1219 yards on 109 completions for eight touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Seiber had a passer rating of 101.3 and a completion percentage of 50.7%.
 
The Red Leafs return both of their leading rushers from 2021, Somto Anyadike and Mason Glover. The best receiving returner for Simon Fraser is Sam Davenport who had 154 yards and zero touchdowns on the year.
 
In 2021, the CWU beat SFU in both matchups, including a 70-0 victory at home in November. Last September, the Wildcats traveled to Simon Fraser and came back with a 36-14 victory.
 
This Saturday's game will be the only one between the two teams this season.
 
The Wildcats travel to SFU with a 1-1 record after beating Western New Mexico 24-13 at Tomlinson Stadium last Saturday, Sept. 10.
 
Tre'Jon Henderson had a massive day on the ground against WNMU, registering 154 yards and all three of CWU's touchdowns. Henderson's performance led to him being named the LSC Offensive Player of the Week.
 
CWU's stout defense held up strong against the WNMU offense. Isaiah Carbajal logged four QB hits. Brett Accimus led the team in tackles (11). Daeon Hudson registered 10 tackles, two QB hits and one interception. The team recorded four total interceptions on the night.
 
"After last week's performance, we've got enough to work on ourselves and things that we can take care of that we control and just play our brand of football," Fisk said.
