ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Wildcats gave up two goals, one in each half, as the Northwest Nazarene University Nighthawks beat the Central Washington University women's soccer team in their GNAC opener on Thursday.
"The game was a tough one, just like every game in the GNAC. We had fewer opportunities that we would have liked in front of goal," Head Coach
Lindsey Lee said. "But we grew in the areas that we have been training, so that is nice to see."
Â
The first shot of the game came in the 14th minute as
Teryn Mendez had a header inside the box.
Â
In the 16th minute, NNU got their first shot, registered by Sierra Sanchez. Both teams continued to exchange shots back and forth for the majority of the first half.
Â
The Nighthawks found the back of the net in the 43rd minute thanks to a goal from Carolyn Moravec, her first of the season. She received the ball from Yacine Bitibale and soared it over
Kassandra Jaggard in goal from well outside the box.
Â
The Wildcats looked to erase the deficit and even the score up in the second half. They registered four shots in the second half, including one shot on goal.
Â
In the 86th minute, Ashley Parton got the ball around midfield and proceeded to go on a 40-yard sprint, finding her way into the box and slotted a shot past Jaggard to double the Nighthawk lead by a score of 0-2.
Â
Neither team scored in the remainder of the game and the Wildcats fell 0-2.
Â
CWU registered nine shots, four on goal. NNU logged 13 total shots, six on goal. Jaggard recorded four saves, two in each half.
"I would love to promote the positive team culture we have," Lee said. "We win, lose and tie as a team and that will continue to elevate our training and gamesmanship."
