ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University football team hosts the Western New Mexico Mustangs in their first home game of the 2022 season.

Western New Mexico comes to Ellensburg with a 1-0 record, beating Adams State University by a score of 34-20 on Sept. 3. Devin Larson, the Mustangs leading passer in 2021, threw for 271 yards, four touchdowns and one interception in the win against Adams State.

The 2022 season will be the second season with Philip Vigil as the WNMU Head Coach. Vigil joined the Mustangs in May 2021 from Stephen F. Austin, where he was the Running Backs Coach and the Recruiting Coordinator.

In 2021, CWU thrashed WNMU 54-29 in Silver City, New Mexico on Nov. 6, 2021.

Quincy Glasper had a phenomenal day throwing the ball. He amassed 452 yards on 55 attempts for five touchdowns. On the ground,
Tyler Flanagan rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on eight attempts, an average of 13.3 yards per carry.
Darius Morrison led all Wildcat receivers with 117 yards on five receptions.

Jahleel Breland led the defense with eight total tackles.
Patrick Rogers logged seven tackles and
Daeon Hudson and
Tanner Volk logged six each.

CWU enters the matchup with WNMU with an 0-1 record. The Wildcats traveled to Big Rapids, Mich. to face off against the #1 Ferris State Bulldogs, the reigning NCAA Division II National Champions, on Sept. 1. They lost by a score of 20-36.

Against a potent Ferris State offense, the CWU defense battled hard. They forced one fumble and sacked Mylik Mitchell, the Ferris State quarterback, four times.

Daeon Hudson had a big night, recording 11 solo tackles (14 total), two sacks and a fumble recovery.
Tanner Volk recorded 12 total tackles and
Jahleel Breland logged 10 total tackles.
Bridger Feldmann and
Chase Loidhamer each had one sack.

Darius Morrison led CWU receivers with 71 yards and one touchdown. On the ground, new transfer Tre'Jon Henderson rushed for 67 yards on 13 attempts, averaging 5.2 yards per rush.

"I like our potential as a team. If we stay engaged and invested, we have some big things ahead of us," CWU Head Coach
Chris Fisk said after the loss to Ferris St. "We will make our biggest improvement from game one to game two."
