Women's Rugby Heads to Utah for a Battle with the Cougars

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington women's rugby team (0-1) will head to Utah to take on the BYU Cougars (0-0) this Saturday, October 14th at 10:00 a.m. pacific time from Helaman Field in Provo, Utah.

"I'm excited to get to Provo for another great matchup with BYU," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "BYU has been a force in the west for years, so we're excited to take on such great competition. It's been a big week of learnings for the team in preparation for Saturday, and I've been very pleased with what we've seen in training. We're all looking forward to the challenge this Saturday."

The Wildcats will look to bounce back after falling in the season opener 41-5 at Tomlinson Stadium last Saturday. Winnie Namosimalua scored the lone try of the day for the Wildcats as the Running Eagles ran all over the field in the second half after a 10-5 halftime lead.

The Cougars are coming off a 7-1 season that saw them finish the season on a 6-0 streak, only allowing 16 points in that span. The Wildcats traveled to BYU last year as the last game of the beginning of the season road trip that saw the Wildcats take the 40-17 victory. Kerena Tinoisamoa, Tessa Hann, Jessica Postle, Lilly Thomas, Emma McCabe, and Mariah Tuitasi all scored a try in the match last year with Kai Brandt-Templeton going five of six on conversion attempts.

This is the Cougars first year in the College Rugby Association of America Women's D1 Elite League as they made the jump with Grand Canyon University from the Women's D1 College Rugby league.

This will be the first official match for the Cougars as apart of the D1 Elite League as they've only had a scrimmage against their alumni last Friday to officially open their season.

All-time the Wildcats lead the series 8-4 and are 2-2 in Provo. The match will be streaming on the BYU Women's Rugby Youtube page HERE
