Women's Rugby Hosts Defending D1 Elite Champions Lindenwood this Saturday

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington women's rugby team (2-1) will stay in "The 'Burg" this weekend after a two-week road trip to welcome the defending D1 Elite Champions, the Lindenwood Lady Lions (3-1) for a pink out game this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. from Tomlinson Stadium.

"The team has put together another strong week of competing and training," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "We're looking forward to another great contest on Saturday against a very strong Lindenwood team."

The Wildcats will look to ride the momentum built over the past two weeks with wins over BYU and Grand Canyon, both on the road. The Wildcats first defeated BYU 22-12 before a 79-0 trouncing over Grand Canyon.

During the road trip the Wildcats saw some big contributions from Tessa Hann, Winnie Namosimaula, Lilly Thomas, and Vivanne Wright who all contributed two successful tries. Kai Brandt-Templeton converted one try as well as eight conversions. The Wildcats also saw a successful try from Jennilyn Aquino, Brandt-Templeton, Shaylee Coulter-Fa'amafu, Lauren DiPasquale, Faiane Eteuini, Emma McCabe, and Elise Norris.

CWU will look to secure their first ever victory over the Lady Lions who have already had a strong start to their season. LU started their season with a 103-7 exhibition victory over the Kansas City Jazz. To open the regular season the Lady Lions saw themselves move to 1-0 with a 48-15 home victory over Southern Nazarene. LU would travel to Davenport where they saw their first setback in a 27-14 decision before bouncing back in a big way with a 30-15 victory over Dartmouth on the road followed by a 60-17 exhibition win over the St. Louis Sabres. Most recently the Lady Lions opened D1 Elite play with a 27-0 victory over Life at home.

The Lady Lions have been led by Madison Jersey who's converted five tries this season with Amy Brice, Erica Cathey, and Sophie O'Cain also adding on three successful tries. The Lady Lions have had a plethora of players with one or two successful tries on the season.

The Wildcats will continue a homestand to conclude the fall season with a Sunday matchup against Boise State at noon on November 5th.
