ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington women's rugby team (3-2) defeated the Boise State Broncos (5-2) in a Sunday afternoon matchup 103-0 from Steve Hertling Field at Tomlinson Stadium.
"I have the upmost respect for Coach Buddy and the Boise State program," CWU Head Women's Rugby Coach Matt Ramirez said. "They always front up whenever they play us and it's always great to get that competition growing a little bit more locally than normal. It was great to see some of our younger players step up and jump into positions they are not too familiar with to be able to learn more as we go forward and make the charge into the small break before our championship season begins in the spring."
After the first few minutes were back-and-forth, the Wildcats opened the floodgates and their offense had themselves a day. The Wildcats saw
Juliane Biarnes with two successful tries within the first 11 minutes of the game with
Kai Brandt-Templeton successfully making a conversion in the process for a 12-0 lead with 29 minutes in the first half. The Wildcats would see two tries from
Alexandria Ma'ae as well as one try from
Mariah Tuitasi,
Faiane Eteuini, and
Linda Chavira with Brandt-Templeton making three more conversions to see the Wildcats lead at halftime 43-0.
CWU didn't stop their onslaught as Brandt-Templeton immediately came out and scored another try to make it 48-0.
Vivianne Wright would nab two tries while
Winnie Namosimalua,
Elise Norris,
Georgia Budd,
Lilly Thomas,
Maleena Mero, and
Emma McCabe would each find the try zone once. Brant-Templeton would add on five more conversions as the Wildcats cruised to the 103-0 victory.
The Wildcats will look toward their spring schedule with another slate of games starting out with a revenge trip to Life University in Marietta, Georgia on Saturday, March 2
