ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington University women's basketball team is excited to announce their 2024-25 season incoming freshmen.
"We are very excited to announce the signing of Emily Shaw and Jordy DeMott," CWU Head Women's Basketball Coach
Randi Richardson-Thornley said.
"Emily is an elite level shooter who values both sides of the ball, and has the work ethic to back it up," Richardson-Thornley said. "Beyond that she is a high-character young lady who fits the values of our program. She comes from two high level basketball programs in her high school (Mater Dei) and select program (Troop West), that have both set a very good foundation of high standards and expectations that will help her transition quickly to this level."
Shaw will join the crimson and black after helping the Monarchs of Mater Dei High School look to win their fourth straight Trinity League Championship this upcoming season. She helped the Monarchs to the California Interscholastic Federation championship game her freshman year as well as making the playoffs her sophomore and junior year. She was named Honorable Mention All-Conference her sophomore and junior season as well a CIF champion in long jump her freshman year. She not only did it on the court, but in the classroom as well receiving honor roll every year so far as well as being a member of the California Scholarship Federation.
Shaw is undecided on what major to pursue at this time. She chose CWU because, "I believe that it's the best fit for me both athletically and academically. I really fell in love with the program, just the way they play, and the fact that the coaching staff was really welcoming and made me feel like family. I also really enjoyed the campus, facilities, and what academic options are offered at the university."
"Jordy is a strong and athletic forward who plays with a great motor and great level of physicality," Richardson-Thornley said. "Her work ethic and skillset fits our system extremely well, and she values defense and rebounding which is a necessity, especially in her position. She's another high-character young lady who fits the values of our program. She comes form a great basketball background which has set her up for success in making the transition to our level."
Hailing from Claremont, Calif., Jordy DeMott will join the Wildcats after wrapping up a stellar high school career, most recently at Bonita High School. She will head to Ellensburg after this upcoming season having started on the varsity squad all four years of her high school career as well as earning an all-league recognition her junior season. DeMott will be pivotal in the years to come in the Wildcat defense as she brings the intensity and speed on the defensive side of the ball.
DeMott plans to major in education and had this to say on why she chose CWU, "the love and care that the whole women's basketball staff has showed me has been amazing. It's rare to find college coaches that have the desire to win, but also genuinely care about every single one of their players as well. They've made me feel extremely welcomed and excited. When going on my visit, the team was very easy to bond with and it almost felt like home being there. I have a very competitive edge and I can tell Coach Randi is the same way. I know I will be pushed in the best ways possible and when choosing where I was going to school, I wanted to go somewhere where I would grow most, and I believe CWU will provide that for me."
"We are so happy to have Emily and Jordy join our Wildcat family, and we can't wait to see what they can do in the crimson and black!" Richardson-Thornley said.
