High-Powered Offense Pushes #19 Wildcats to Sweep of Nanooks

ELLENSBURG, Wash. - The Central Washington University volleyball team got revenge from a loss in Fairbanks earlier this season with a sweep of the Nanooks in Nicholson Arena tonight (25-13, 25-19, 25-13).

NOTABLE STATS
The #19 Wildcats were effective on all fronts offensively, hitting .398 on the way to the team's fifth straight win. Ellie Marble led the 'Cats in kills with 11, followed by Scottie Ellsworth with 10. Marble also tied for the team-lead in blocks with four, along with Emma Daoud-Hebert.

Tia Andaya had an incredibly efficient night, recording six kills on six attacks, tallying a team-high 28 assists, and adding seven digs. Hannah Stires put up 15 digs, leading the team. Ashley Kaufman registered five of the team's 10 aces, adding 10 digs too.

QUOTING HEAD COACH MARIO ANDAYA
"The players prepared well for this match and it showed. We served well which was a big part of our success and we created a lot of chances to score from our defense. This was a great team win."

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats came out of the gates hot, jumping to a 6-1 lead after back-to-back blocks. The lead expanded to ten points after a Morgan Halady kill made it 15-5. Fairbanks struggled to find a grip, and the Wildcats continued to push ahead.

Up 20-11, a four-point CWU run gave the Wildcats set point at 24-11. Andaya would finish it off from Stires to take the first frame 25-13.

The Nanooks turned a corner early in the second set, controlling the pace through the early portion. A Marble kill halted a UAF streak, but the Wildcats still found themselves down 8-11. The Crimson and Black finally tied it up at 14-14, but UAF caught some fire, taking four straight to make it 14-18.

The 'Cats returned the favor, taking seven straight of their own with Kaufman at the service line. Kaufman recorded three aces in the run, gifting the Wildcats a 21-18 lead. The Nanooks only earned one more point and an Ellsworth kill put away the second set 25-19.

Both teams traded points in the beginning of the third set. Knotted up at 6-6, the Wildcats took 13 of the next 14 points, making it 19-7. A dominant showcase in the third frame cut any hope the Nanooks had left, and Corinne Westby earned match point for Wildcats, taking the final set 25-13.

UP NEXT
The #19 Wildcats (17-6, 11-4 GNAC) will look to keep rolling into a Senior Day showdown vs. Alaska Anchorage this Saturday, Nov. 11, at 7:00 p.m. in Nicholson Arena.
