Wildcats Send Seniors Out in Style With Huge Win Over Anchorage

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington women's basketball team sent the seniors out with a huge win inside the Nicholson Pavilion Saturday night with a huge 87-56 win over the Alaska Anchorage Seawolves, with Samantha Bowman leading all scores with 33 points to go with her 18 rebounds.

They are a special group, and our program will miss them tremendously. Tonight, was about them and I'm happy we could come out with a win." 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • The Seawolves started out with a 4-0 lead as both teams struggled to find the bottom of the net the first few minutes of the game before a Asher Cai three put the Wildcats on the board and the team rallied behind that bucket as five different Wildcats scored to put the Wildcats up 19-13 at the end of the first quarter.
  • A three-pointer by Sunshine Huerta opened the second quarter seeing the Wildcat lead soar to nine points before the Seawovles slimmed it down to four points the following two possessions, however that didn't deter the Wildcats as they would start to sync going on a 20-6 run helping the Wildcat lead reach 16: 45-29 at halftime. 
  • Sunshine would again open the scoring in the third quarter with a big three-pointer putting the Wildcats up by 19 48-29, which helped set the tone for the rest of the quarter as CWU would outscore UAA 22-8 for the 67-37 lead at the end of the third. 
  • Bowman would start the scoring in the fourth quarter as both teams would go toe to toe in the final quarter for the final score of 87-56.
 
STATS FROM THE GAME:
 
  • Bowman led all scores and rebounds with 33 points and 18 boards. 
  • Huerta and Cai each tallied double-figures with 19 and 11, respectively. 
  • Bush and Bowman each recorded a block in the win. 
  • The Wildcats combined for five total steals. 
  • CWU went a perfect 17 for 17 from the free-throw line, led by Bowman's eight attempts and makes. 
  • The 'Cats shot 50 percent from the floor and 40 percent from three-point attempts.
 
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE:
 
  • The Wildcats honored seniors Kiera Bush, Jenna Troy, Tori Maeda, and Bowman for all their hard work and commitment for all Wildcat Nation! 
  • This was the 43rd ever meeting between the two schools with Anchorage holding the 32-11 advantage in the series. 
  • This was the first season sweep for the Wildcats over Anchorage since the 2004-2005 season.

  • The Wildcats will start their multi-week road journey with one matchup next week in Nampa, Idaho against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks (11-12, 7-8 GNAC) with a 4:15 p.m. tip-off.
