Wildcats Wrap Up the CUI Kick-Off Classic by Shutting Out Second Ranked CSU Dominguez Hills

IRVINE, Calif. – The Central Washington softball team wrapped up their participated in the CUI Kick-Off Classic by blanking the number two team in the country and reigning national runners up Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros by a 3-0 decision at Great Park.
 
 
SCORING: 
 
  • The Wildcats opened the scoring in the second inning as Sasha Mitchell reached first on an error by the Toro shortstop which allowed Brooke Jordan to move to second and allowed Allie Thiessen to score from second. 
  • Central Washington pushed their lead up as Taylor "TK" Kai singled up the middle while advancing to second allowing Allie Thiessen to score to make it 2-0 CWU. 
  • Kate Hopkins buffered the lead for the Wildcats as she doubled to left field allowing Karsyn Decker to score to seal the deal for the win.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Isabel Womack had herself a day pitching all seven innings, allowing two hits, no runs, two walks, two strikeouts, while facing 25 batters. 
  • Alyssa Olague took the loss for the Toros pitching four innings, while allowing two runs, one earned, no walks, six strikeouts while facing 19 batters. 
  • Ashley Wies came in to relief Olague pitching the final three innings allowing one more run while walking one batter with five strikeouts while facing 13 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with eight hits on the day.
  • Thiessen and Jordan led the way with two hits apiece.
  • Decker, Hopkins, TK, and Harlee Carpenter each finished with one hit.
  • Hopkins and TK each recorded an RBI.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will have their home opening doubleheader when they face NAIA Corban Warriors on the Gary & Bobbi Frederick Field on Saturday February 18th with first pitch of game one set for 11:00 a.m. with the second game to start approximately a half an hour following the conclusion of the first.
