Wildcats Drop a Pair in California on Day One

LOLETA, Calif. – The Central Washington softball team (8-9) dropped the first pair of their four-game series on the road at Cal Poly Humboldt Friday afternoon. The 'Jacks took game one 10-2 in six innings before following that up with a 3-0 victory in game two.
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wildcats struck first when Harlee Carpenter singled up the middle brining Jillian Hampson home to put the Wildcats up 1-0 in the top of the third.
  • The 'Jacks would respond in the bottom of the third as Izzy Starr would single to center field brining Micaela Harris and McKenna Beach home putting the 'Jacks up 2-1.
  • A drawn walk by Vanessa Saltos with bases loaded still in the bottom of the third brought Ciera Pyle home.
  • Shelby Shanks on the following at-bat doubled to left center brining Kristin Ingram and Starr home putting Humboldt up 5-1.
  • The Wildcats would respond in the top of the fourth thanks to Hampson stealing third base before an error by the third baseman allowed Hampson to score putting the Wildcats down 2-5.
  • The 'Jacks weren't having it as they would score in the bottom of the fourth from Harris doubling down the right field line bringing Beach home.
  • Katlyn Gifford doubled down the right field bringing Pyle home, followed by Starr reaching on fielders choice and an error on the third baseman allowed Gifford to score brining the score to 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Saltos sacrifice bunted allowing Starr to score to end the fourth inning with the 'Jacks up 9-2.
  • In the bottom of the sixth inning Shanks singled up the middle which brought Gifford home.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Isabel Womack went 2.2 innings allowing five hits, five runs, five earned runs, and three walks while getting four strikeouts against 16 batters.
  • Makayla Miller came in for the final three innings allowing eight hits, five runs, three earned runs, and two walks against 18 batters.
  • Gaige Garcia took the win for the 'Jacks going five innings and allowing four hits, two runs, one earned run, and three walks while getting three strikeouts against 22 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with five hits as carpenter continued her hot hitting streak with two hits on the day as well as getting an RBI.
  • Allie Thiessen, Myiah Seaton, and Hampson all had one hit on the day.
  • The 'Jacks finished with 10 hits as four different players had two hits.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • The 'Jacks erased the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning when Beach homered to left center.
  • Starr kept it going by singling to right center brining Harris home.
  • In the bottom of the fifth inning Pyle grounded out to the second baseman allowing Beach to score.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched all six innings for the Wildcats allowing only seven hits, three runs, and three runs while getting two strikeouts against 25 batters.
  • Vanessa Richie started the game for the 'Jacks lasting three innings and allowing only two hits but getting one strikeout against 12 batters.
  • Alyssa Smokey took the win going three innings and allowing one hit and one walk while getting two strikeouts against 11 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats mustered four hits with Laney Kaysner getting three and Karsyn Decker getting the final one.
  • The 'Jacks finished with seven hits and two players each getting two hits.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats and Lumberjacks will wrap up their four-game series tomorrow with a 11:00 a.m. first-pitch for game one and game two to start approximately 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
