Wildcats Suffer Two Setbacks From Wolves

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington fell in a GNAC matchup against Western Oregon 3-6 and 2-5 on Sunday at home.

QUOTING HEAD COACH DESI STOREY
"We were in those games we just have to get some offense going. I thought we battled well; Brayde kept us in game two. In game one, we had one hit and were still in the game, we could have taken that one just needed some offense. We must get rid of the goose eggs, and we have too many strikeouts. We need to get back to mixing in quality at bats with singles."

Storey added, "Our pitching seems to be getting stronger, Brayde wasn't great today, but he battled. We are going to see good pitching again tomorrow, so we need to put runs on the board."

GAME ONE
  • Western Oregon struck in the first inning, capitalizing on an error. Singles from Derek and Jacob Maiben pushed across two more runs for the Wolves which extended their lead to three.
  • The 'Cats responded, Travis Helm grounded out to short driving in Larson. In the sixth inning, two errors drove in two more runs for Central Washington that tied the game at three.
  • In the ninth, Western Oregon capitalized with two baserunners. AJ Cortese launched a three-run shot to left field that gave Western Oregon the 6-3 victory.
PITCHING
  • Daniel Charron started on the mound for the 'Cats. He worked seven innings and recorded six strikeouts. Alex Brady came in for relief. He threw two innings and fanned two batters.

  • The Wolves added two more runs in the sixth and seventh to take a 5-1 advantage into the bottom of the 7th.
  • With three outs remaining, the 'Cats battled. Ben Leid singled to left, Austin Ohland drew a walk, and Sam Lauderdale singled to right field, loading the bases.
