Wildcats Take Day Two Split at the Tournament of Champions

TURLOCK, Calif. – The Central Washington softball team (16-15) completed day two of the Tournament of Champions with a split taking game one 4-0 over the Academy of Art (7-29) before falling by a 2-6 score in game two to San Francisco State. 
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wildcats got on the board early in the top of the first as Alyssa Benthagen singled up the middle bringing Laney Kaysner home for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Wildcats added on in the fourth as Kaysner sacrificed herself by flying out to left field allowing Jillian Hampson to run home for the 2-0 lead.
  • In the top of the fifth Myiah Seaton smashed her second homerun of the season past the left field wall for the 3-0 score.
  • The Wildcats insured their lead when TK singled through the left side allowing Makenna King to score to end the scoring at 4-0.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Freshman Payton Kessler got the start for the Wildcats pitching her first complete collegiate game and her first collegiate shutout in the process.
  • Kessler pitched seven innings, allowing five hits and three walks while getting seven strikeouts against 30 batters.
  • Haley Arnold-Jolley pitched a complete game for the Urban Knights going seven innings, allowing 12 hits, four runs, four earned runs, and one walk while getting five strikeouts against 36 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with 12 hits on the day as Seaton paved the way with three hits.
  • Kaysner, Benthagen, and TK all added on two hits apiece while Harlee Carpenter, Kate Hopkins, and Karsyn Decker all added on one hit apiece. 
  • The Urban Knights finished with five hits on the day with one player getting two to lead the Academy of Art.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Gators nabbed the first score in the top of the first inning when Teya Vincent sacrificed herself allowing Kai DeLeon to score for the early 1-0 score.
  • The Gators added on in the second inning as Hailey Weddington singled to left field allowing Kira Nilson to score for the 2-0 score. 
  • In the third inning Daniella Guerrera singled to right field allowing both Marley Gonzales and DeLeon to score to take a 4-0 lead. 
  • The Gators tacked on one more in the fourth inning as DeLeon singled up the middle bringing Liana Gonzales home for the 5-0 score.
  • The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the fifth as Seaton singled to right field bringing Kaysner home making it a 5-1 score. 
  • The Gators would respond in the sixth as Mia Misasi would steal home for the 6-1 score.
  • CWU wouldn't go away as in the bottom of the sixth TK would reach on an error from the third baseman allowing Hopkins to score making it a 6-2 score.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver would get the start for the Wildcats going two innings and allowing five hits, four runs, and four earned runs while getting two strikeouts against 13 batters.
  • Isabel Womack would come in and finish the final five innings allowing three hits, two runs, two earned runs, and three walks while getting eight strikeouts against 21 batters.
  • Brooklyn Heffernan would pitch five innings for SFSU allowing four hits, one run, and three walks while getting six strikeouts against 24 batters.
  • Madeline Eshbach finished out the game pitching two innings and allowing one hit, one run, and two walks against 11 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats would get five hits on the day as Allie Thiessen, Sasha Mitchell, Benthagen, Seaton, and TK would all record one hit apiece.
  • The Gators finished with eight hits on the day as one player finished with three and another finished with two.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will conclude their participation in the TOC when they have a 10:00 a.m. first-pitch game against the Chaminade Silverswords at Warrior Field.
