Nighthawks Fly Away from Wildcats

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington softball team (17-23, 5-11 GNAC) wrapped up their series against the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks (26-14, 14-2 GNAC) dropping a pair of games first dropping the first game 1-4 before an 0-4 score in game two.
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Nighthawks struck first in the first inning when Maia McNicoll singled to center field bringing Clarissa Moreno home, which was followed by Madison Felter reaching on a fielding error from the shortstop allowing Tori Hensley to score for the early 0-2 lead.
  • The Wildcats got on the board in the bottom of the third when Hannah Hvitved singled up the middle bringing Myiah Seaton home.
  • The Nighthawks put the game away in the top of the seventh when Sidney Booth reached on a fielding error allowing McNicoll to score for the 1-3 lead, it was followed by Felter flying out to right field allowing Abigail Gagnon to score for the 1-4 lead. 
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched the full seven innings for the Wildcats allowing seven hits, four runs, two earned runs, and three walks while getting four strikeouts against 35 batters.
  • Booth started the game for the Nighthawks going 3.2 innings and allowing six hits, one run, one earned run, and three walks while getting four strikeouts against 21 batters.
  • Gina Skinner came on to relieve Booth pitching the final 3.1 innings and allowing two hits and getting three strikeouts against 13 batters.

SCORING:
 
  • The Nighthawks once again started their scoring in the first inning when Booth was walked bringing Hensley home for the 0-1 score. 
  • NNU nabbed another score when Gagnon scored on a wild pitch making it an 0-2 game in favor of NNU.
  • Northwest Nazarene added on in the sixth inning when Moreno doubled to left center bringing Olivia Bailey home which was followed by Hensley singled to right field bringing Moreno home making it an 0-4 game in favor of NNU.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Isabel Womack received the start for CWU going 3.2 innings and allowing two hits, two runs, two earned runs, and seven walks while getting one strikeout against 19 batters.
  • Kessler relieved Womack finishing the final 3.1 innings and allowing four hits, two runs, and two earned runs while getting four strikeouts against 15 batters.
  • Hensley pitched all seven innings for NNU allowing four hits and one walk while getting five strikes against 27 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with four hits led by Seaton with two.
  • Hvitved and Decker each recorded a hit in the game.
  • NNU finished with six hits in the game led by Moreno with two.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats will head to the great north for a four-game series at Simon Fraser (8-31, 2-14 GNAC) next Saturday and Sunday with first-pitch set for noon with game two starting about a half an hour after the conclusion of game one each day.
