Wildcats Discover Gold Mine in Idaho

BOISE, Idaho – The Central Washington women's rugby team participated in the Fools Gold 7s hosted by Boise State this past Saturday. The Wildcats played through a tournament full of wet, wind, and cold to go 4-0.

The Wildcats first defeated the Montana State A team by a 46-0 score. They then defeated the Boise State A Team by a 42-0 score. Then they took down Colorado State 36-12 after a narrow three-point lead at the half. The Wildcats rounded out the day with a 39-0 victory over the Boise State A Team once more.

Sammy Stern found the edge multiple times for scores while MA Sorensen Award Nominee Tessa Hann continued to be a force in every game and showed why she was nominated. There were a lot of young players that stepped up and showed speed and skill which showed a lot of promise for the future of Wildcat women's rugby.

"Boise State put on a fantastic tournament and were incredible hosts," women's rugby head coach Matthew Ramirez said. "It was a great first hit out for the squad as we got to learn a lot about ourselves as a sevens team and apply what we've been drilling on all week in tough conditions. Very pleased with where we are and excited for who we can be for Nationals. A special thanks to our staff for making sure the team was primed and ready each game as well as their major focus on recovery with short turnaround times."
