Wildcats Chased out of the Wolves Den

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – The Central Washington softball team (16-18, 4-6 GNAC) suffered a pair of setbacks in their series opener at Western Oregon (20-18, 9-3 GNAC) first falling 3-4 in game one before falling 7-8 in 10 innings in game two.
 
GAME 1
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wolves jumped out to the lead in the second inning when Baylie Kahele doubled to left field brining Sophie Franklin home for the 1-0 lead.
  • The Wolves added on in the second inning when Sydney Conklin sacrificed herself by grounding out to the third baseman which allowed Bella Valdes to score for the 2-0 lead.
  • The Wildcats would get on the board in the top of the fourth when Sasha Mitchell would reach on an error by the shortstop bringing Myiah Seaton home to slash the WOU lead to 2-1.
  • The Wolves responded in the bottom of the fourth when Valdes singled allowing Franklin to score again for the 3-1 lead.
  • Valdes stole home to increase the lead to 4-1 to end the fourth inning.
  • The Wildcats would build some momentum as Makayla Miller singled to left field in the top of the seventh bringing Serena Perez home making it a 2-4 Wolves advantage.
  • CWU wasn't done as Ashtyn Falor would reach on a fielder's choice brining Heidi Heytvelt home for the 3-4 score, but the comeback wasn't enough as that would be the final score.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Ashlee Laver pitched another complete game, going all six innings and allowing six hits, four runs, four earned runs, and one walk against 26 batters.
  • Maddie Mayer pitched a complete game for WOU, pitching seven innings and allowing two hits, three runs, two earned runs, and four walks while getting two strikeouts against 29 batters.
 
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with two hits, one by Brooke Jordan and one by Miller.
  • The Wolves finished with six hits as six different Wolves would record a hit.
 
GAME 2
 
SCORING:
 
  • The Wolves struck first as Logan Carlos scored on a wild pitch in the first.
  • The Wildcats would respond in the top of the second as Jillian Hampson doubled to left field bringing Kate Hopkins home.
  • The Wildcats continued in the third inning as Miller singled bringing Harlee Carpenter and Seaton home in the process for the 3-1 lead.
  • Hopkins followed by singling to right field brining home both Miller and Jordan in the process for the 5-1 lead.
  • Jordan would record her third homerun of the season, this time to left field brining Perez home with for the 7-1 lead in the top of the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the sixth, Kahele singled to right field brining Victoria Zimmerman and Carly Turpen home in the process dicing the CWU lead to 7-3.
  • The Wolves would continue as condklin singled bringing Valdes home making it 7-4 CWU, followed by Carlos singling to center field bringing Carley Schlag home making it 7-5 CWU.
  • Still in the bottom of the sixth, Katelyn McGough would double to center field bringing home both Carlos and Conklin tying the game at seven apiece.
  • The Wolves would win it in the bottom of the 10th as Valdes singled to left center bringing Nicki Derrick home.
 
PITCHING:
 
  • Isabel Womack got the start for the Wildcats going 5.1 innings and allowing 0 hits, three runs, three earned runs, and eight walks while getting three strikeouts against 24 batters.
  • Payton Kessler came in and pitched the final 4.1 innings allowing five hits, five runs, four earned runs, and one walk while getting five strikeouts against 19 batters.
  • Erica Soliz started for WOU going three innings and allowing three hits, five runs, three earned runs, and four walks while getting five strikeouts against 17 batters.
  • Chelsea Smith came in and pitched the final seven innings allowing one hit, two runs, two earned runs, and four walks, while getting 12 strikeouts against 27 batters.
HITTING:
 
  • The Wildcats finished with four hits as Jordan, Miller, Hopkins, and Hampson each recorded a hit.
  • The Wolves finished with five hits with five different Wolves recording a hit.
 
UP NEXT:
 
  • The Wildcats and Wolves will wrap up their series tomorrow with another double-header from the WOU Softball Field with a noon start time for game one and game two to follow approximately 30 minutes after.
