HOUSTON- The Central Washington women's rugby team (10-6) went 2-2 in their first day of the Women's Premiere 7's College Rugby National Championship.
The Wildcats first defeated the Golden Rams West Chester University of Pennsylvania 27-5.
Kai Brandt-Templeton converted two tries and one conversion while
Tessa Hann,
Philomena Namosimalua, and
Sammy Stern all converted one try of their own.
CWU then went 2-0 to open the day with a 29-0 throttle of the Long Island Sharks. Hann converted two tries while Brandt-Templeton,
Faiane Eteuini, and Namosimalua each converted one try apiece. Brandt-Templeton also had two conversions in the match.
The Wildcats rounded out their pool action with a showcase against the Dartmouth Big Green in which the decision favored the undefeated Dartmouth by a 24-7 score. Hann had a try and a conversion in the match.
To wrap up the day the Wildcats faced a very familiar nemesis in the Life University Running Eagles Stern and Hann each converted a try while
Kerena Tinoisamoa had one conversion in the 24-12 setback to Life.
The Wildcats are back in action tomorrow when they face the American International Yellow Jackets (24-11) at 7:40 a.m. from SaberCat Stadium in Houston. The 'Jackets are 2-2 a 19-5 victory over Sacred Heart and a 32-0 victory over California while falling by a 38-5 score to four-time defending national champion Lindenwood as well as a 32-0 setback to Harvard.
