HOUSTON- The Central Washington women's rugby team wrapped up their 2022-23 season with the last day of the USA Rugby College Women's Premiere 7's College Rugby National Tournament going 1-1 on the day.
The Wildcats first fell by a 14-15 decision in a thriller with the American International Yellow Jackets.
Sammy Stern and
Winnie Namosimalua each converted one try apiece while
Kai Brandt-Templeton had two conversions in the match.
The Wildcats went head-to-head with the Penn State Nittany Lions to wrap up the season with the Wildcats defeating Penn State by a 27-0 score. Stern converted two tries while
Tessa Hann,
Lilly Thomas, and Brandt-Templeton each had one conversion in the match.
The Wildcats finished their season 11-7 as Hann and
Keia Mae Sagapolu each were nominated for the prestigious Sorensen Award for the best rugby player in the nation with Sagapolu being selected as a finalist. Sagapolu also was selected to the USA Rugby Women's Eagles National Team and went over to Madrid, Spain as a part of the teams lead up match with the Spain National Team before the Women's Eagles will take part in the 2023 Pacific Four Series with teams from Australia, New Zealand, and Canada joining the Women's Eagles in Canada in early July.
