PORTLAND, Ore. – Central Washington volleyball setter and outside hitter
Tia Andaya has been named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week after her efforts this past weekend in the Wildcats home opening split. Andaya is the second-straight Wildcat to earn the award this season after
Hannah Stires earned it last weekend.
"Tia's defensive efforts may be overlooked at times, blocking and digging," Head Volleyball Coach
Mario Andaya said. "But she definitely can, as other players do as well, impact the game in a number of ways."
Andaya was critical to the success of the Wildcats in their 3-1 victory over Western Washington on Thursday, throwing down 11 kills, two aces, and three blocks. She, as always, assisted various Wildcats 36 times for points while also posting double digits in digs with 11 on the night. Andaya was tied for the most points for the Wildcats on the night with 14.5 coming from Andaya.
She kept things going on Saturday in the 3-0 loss to Simon Fraser. Andaya finished the match with six kills, one ace, and seven blocks. She led the way with 22 assists in the match while posting double-digit digs once again with 11. She finished the match with the most scored points with 11.5.
