‘Cats Earn Thrilling 4-3 Victory Over Yellowjackets

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington picked up a thrilling 4-3 home victory over Montana State Billings on Thursday night. Casey Park, Lily Newberry, Cassidie Andrews, and Emily Darcy all found the back of the net.

FIRST HALF
  • Central wasted no time getting on the score sheet. Fifty-four seconds in Payton Lindell found Casey Park, who nailed a shot into the back of the net for the early lead.
  • The Yellowjacket's got the equalizer via the corner kick 13 minutes later. Karii Little fought hard in the box to get to the loose ball and put it into the back of the net. Next, Montana State Billings earned a corner, but their ensuing header went high.
  • Lily Newberry drew a penalty kick in the 21st minute. She stepped lasered it towards the bottom right and into the nylon to take the lead.
  • Just as it looked like the 'Cats were going to take the lead into the break, Jillian Hust lifted a hard shot from the top of the box that hit the left post and curled in.    
SECOND HALF
  • The 2-2 tie didn't last long, Mackenzie Carnell controlled the ball just outside the box took one dribble and lifted one into the back of the net to put the Yellowjackets up 3-2.
  • The back-and-forth slugfest continued as Central Washington tied it up in the 51st minute. Tatum Zuber poked a through ball to Cassidie Andrews in the box. Andrews booted one high and hard for the 'Cats third goal of the night.
  • The tension was palpable with ten minutes to go. In the 81st minute, Lily Newberry pushed one to Emily Darcy who buried the game winner!
UP NEXT
  • The 'Cats will take this momentum into the weekend, when they face off against Seattle Pacific on Saturday at 7:00 PM in Tomlinson.
