Lloyd and Clark Combine for 52 Points to Lead Wildcats Past Nighthawks

ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Anjaylo Lloyd and Jordan Clark combined for 52 points in the 'Cats 82-58 victory on Saturday night. Jello scored 32 points and shot 7-8 from beyond the arc. Clark scored 20 points. He went 6-8 from the floor and made seven free throws. As a team, the 'Cats made 12 threes.

QUOTING HEAD COACH BRANDON RINTA
"Tonight, this team showed who they are capable of being. That was a solid effort on both sides of the ball against a very good NNU team. That was a great defensive effort by everyone. Samaad did a great job of keeping the best offensive rebounding team off the glass."

Rinta added, "Anjaylo and Jordan were both in a great rhythm offensively coming up with big play after big play."

NOTABLE STATS
  • Jello scored 32 points and Clark added 20.
  • Camron McNeil scored 12 points and Maverick Sanders added nine points.
  • Samaad Hector was stellar on defense. He finished the game with four blocks and nine defensive rebounds.
  • The Wildcats shot 55.8% from the field while the Nighthawks shot 41.8%.
  • Central Washington shared the ball well and ended the night with 17 assists. They also capitalized on Northwest Nazarene's miscues, scoring 15 points off turnovers.
  • The 'Cats made 12 threes compared to Northwest Nazarene's two.
FIRST HALF
  • Central Washington started the game on a 9-2 run and never relinquished the lead. Lloyd hit his first of seven threes at with 13:03 left, which put the 'Cats up by 11.
  • The three ball was falling for Central Washington. Cavin Holden stepped into a three, then Jello nailed one, and Clark joined in on the fun, sinking another triple. With the barrage of threes, CWU extended their lead to 13,
  • Camron McNeil drove the lane and put up a floater that dropped through the net. Yaru Harvey hit a three at the end of the half to keep the Nighthawks deficit below double digits. At the break, Central Washington led 36-29.
SECOND HALF
  • Both sides created contact at the basket in the first five minutes of the half, which resulted in a combined five free throws. Clark and Lloyd continued their offensive prowess to start the second half. Clark opened the half with five points for the 'Cats then, Jello caught fire and scored 13 straight for the 'Cats. After the offensive flurry, Central Washington led 59-42 with just under ten minutes remaining.
  • In the final five minutes, Ryzin Bergersen drove all the way to the basket and finished the layup. Aaron Murphy stepped up and knocked down a jumper for the Nighthawks. A few possessions later, Tru Allen buried one from beyond the arc.
  • The Nighthawks were out of range to mount a comeback. Camron McNeil hit a late three as the 'Cats cruised to the 82-58 victory over last year's GNAC Champions.
