ELLENSBURG, Wash. – Central Washington men's basketball won their fourth straight on Saturday night. The 'Cats beat Simon Fraser 92-68. Six Wildcats scored in double figures led by
Samaad Hector. Hector collected another double-double, scoring 17 points and hauling in 14 rebounds.
QUOTING HEAD COACH BRANDON RINTA
"That was another great defensive effort by the team holding SFU to 41% from the floor and out rebounding them by 13. That was as balanced as we have been offensively in while with six guys getting into double figures. Everyone shared the ball all night working together to get 19 assists."
Rinta added, "Samaad had a monster weekend with two double doubles. He was big for us tonight again with 17 and 14 to go with 4 blocks and 4 assists."
NOTABLE STATS
- Central Washington had six players score double figures: Hector 17, Lloyd 14, Swillie 12, Sanders 11, Holden 11, and Dawson 10.
- Zach Stone and Nigel Hylton both scored 12 points for Simon Fraser.
- The Wildcats made 11 from beyond the arc and went 11-14 from the free throw line.
- Central Washington scored 22 fast break points compared to Simon Fraser's five.
FIRST HALF
- Terique Brown made an opening three for the Red Leafs, but the Wildcats responded with a 9-2 run to take an early four-point lead. Bradley Swillie and Colby Gennett buried threes to extend the 'Cats lead to seven with just over ten minutes left in the half.
- Maverick Sanders nailed a three, which put Central Washington up 36-27 with 4:54 remaining.
- Jello converted a layup for his 12th point of the half and the 'Cats took a 44-31 lead into the locker room.
SECOND HALF
- Jordan Clark lit up the scoreboard to start the second half. Clark hit two layups and a three on his way to seven points in the first six minutes.
- Cavin Holden made an elbow three that jump started a 15-4 run that put CWU up 82-55.
- Hector capped off his 17-point night with a high-flying dunk and a three. Bennett O'Connor got in the game late and drained one from well beyond the arc. O'Connor's three put an exclamation mark on Central Washington's 92-68 victory.
